Downgrade to 2.2
We just posted that the DROID 2 Gingerbread update is rolling out, but I’m sure a handful of you have  rooted, removed bloatware, etc. If so, the OTA update is more than likely going to fail. In order to update, you’re going to have to roll back first and we’re going to tell you how.

Warning: This method utilizes the flashing of an SBF file. Flashing an SBF will wipe your device and is potentially dangerous if performed incorrectly. Follow the directions as outlined and make sure your phone is fully charged.

Full instructions after the break

Before you begin, download  the following:

Instructions

  1. Install the Motorola drivers and RSD Lite
  2. Unzip the SBF file to your desktop
  3. Open RSD Lite, tap the “…” button, find the 2.3.20 SBF file that you just unzipped and select it.
  4. Plug the phone into your PC and turn it off
  5. Boot into your bootloader by holding the Up Arrow and Power until the screen flashes
At this point you should see “Battery OK – OK to Program – Transfer Mode: USB”
  6. Click the start button and allow your phone to flash 2.2 (2.3.20 Blur).
  7. When your phone gets to 100% and reboots, you should be all set.

*If your phone reboots and/or has a bunch of force closes, you need a factory reset. To perform a factory reset, follow the instructions below.

  1. Boot your phone into recovery using ADB and command “adb reboot recovery.”
  2. Run factory reset/wipe data.
  3. Reboot your phone and accept the Gingerbread update.

Good luck and let us know if you get Gingerbread!

I tried following the steps above and I get a “Critical Error” message on my phone then the phone turns itself on.

I then performed a factor reset and tried the instructions above again….same problem.

    Any thougts?

    The actual error message is:

    Critical Error
    FEBE
    0047

Then I have to take the battery out to restart the phone.

didn’t work for me kept getting error. and since nobody is helping I’m going to look for a different method

If you get a critical error then 1 of 2 things could have happened, 1 your sbf download is currupted, or 2 your drivers aren’t communicating very well with your droid 2. Try updating ur drivers.
