Motorola Pro Expected Mid-Late September in UK

Back in February, Motorola had a press release announcing that the Motorola Pro was set to come to Europe. Following on the heels of its French release last month, the Pro now appears that it will be available in the UK by mid-late September. Formally known as the Droid Pro, it is being released in Europe as the Motorola Pro since the “Droid” moniker is typically associated to Android devices on Verizon Wireless.

With its US release approaching the year mark, a 3.1 inch screen, Froyo, and a single-core processor, the Pro is not cutting edge by any reach of the imagination. So why is Motorola still intent on releasing it given that more advanced phones are available? The answer is easy, the Pro has a BlackBerry-like form factor, full QWERTY keyboard, and is a great transition phone for traditional BlackBerry users taking their first step into the Android world.

Even though RIM is on the decline, they still maintain an 11.7% share of the worldwide smartphone market and that is the area Motorola is targeting with the Pro. Considering how many smartphones that actually represents, if Motorola can make any inroads into the European portion of that market, the release of the Pro may be a very successful one indeed.
