The rumor buzz has started about which phone will receive the Android 2.2 update, also known as Froyo. By most reports, the original Droid is up for the update on July 13th – in two weeks. This timeline seems to make sense, given that the update is already out on the Nexus One, however there have been some interesting side rumors springing up as well.
It is now being reported that the Droid X will receive the Froyo update, alongside or close to the Droid update. This means that consumers who buy the Droid X when it launches on the 15th will be prompted to update right away. I am taking this one with a gain of salt, however, due to the fact that there are conflicting reports dating the Droid X as receiving Froyo in mid-August.
For now, though, Droid users can sit comfortably knowing that, in all likelihood, they are getting Froyo on the 13th. As for us future Droid X users… do not hold your breath, but you never know.
