When you’re done snickering about the title (go ahead, we’ll wait), check out the robotic spheres built by the guys over at Gearbox. They communicate with Android phones, and they have several idea for apps, from gaming to pseudo-productivity. The one they’re playing with now they call “Sumo,” where two (or more, I suppose) players try to knock each other’s balls off the table. The onscreen display includes stats, damage, and potential power-ups, while the tilt of the phone determines the direction your ball rolls. Several more ideas for apps are outlined for future development, including linking the color of the ball to various events.

The more I think about this little “smart toy,” the more I think I could really enjoy it. It’s still a prototype, so obviously no word on prices or availability yet, but we’ll keep watch for ya, and I’ll resist the urge to make another “balls” joke.
