When the new tiered data-usage model was first announced, there were many frustrated users. When the plan was put into place by Verizon and AT&T on their respective networks, this trend continued. Now that the fallout has settled from this business decision, AT&T is changing its data plans yet again, this time throttling data speeds for the top 5% of its heaviest users, at least the ones that have been grandfathered into unlimited plans. The date for the change? Well, there’s a bit of time, as it’s going into effect on October 1st. Now, of course, for the majority of AT&T customers, this isn’t going to be a big deal. But for those users that stream Pandora or something similar while you’re working along your merry day, this might be a pretty big issue. The business power user will also be pretty affected by this. Do you want to send that massive file to your partner on the road, or do you want to wait til you get to the office wifi? It may be more economically sound to wait. Regardless, while most users won’t be affected, there will be those minority few at the top that may not be able to handle this new cap. And for these people, a new carrier may be the only answer.
