Sure, train simulations are a niche product, and have been for many years, but their popularity has grown at a slow and steady pace, as evident by the Trainz series of simulators which have been quite popular on the PC for some time. Now, after a successful stint on the iPad, Trains Simulator is now arriving on track 2.3 for Android tablets. The simulation not only lets you control trains, but with the Surveyor tool, it lets you create track layouts, schedules and more.
This new sim is slated for Android tablets with at least Android 2.3 installed, and is particularly optimized for Tegra 2 devices, which allow for more advanced weather effects like fog, water effects and more detailed locomotives. You can find Trainz Simulator on the Android Market, and to promote their new Android friendliness, Auran (the makers of the Trainz series) is offering a contest wherein if you purchase their new Trainz PC DLC, A Fleet of Modernism, you’ll be entered to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet.
Personally, I really enjoy trains simulations (and simulations of any kind, really, so I might be a bit biased), but if I had a tablet, I’d be snagging this right now. They’re more fun than they seem at first blush, so if you have any interest in trains, I suggest checking out Trainz Simulator for your Android tablet. Enjoy!
