Cricket launches the Huawei Ascend II for a no contract price of $180

With 5.8 million subscribers, Cricket is one of Amercia’s smaller wireless operators. They have just announced the Huawei Ascend II, which is the successor to the Ascend that launched last year. It has a 600MHz processor, a 3.5-inch (480 x 320) screen, 5MP camera, and Android 2.3. More importantly the Ascend II can be yours for $180 with no contract, and they offer an unlimited everything plan for $55 per month.

As good as this deal is, there is some other options for no contract phones:

Virgin Mobile offers the Motorola Triumph for a no contract price of $300 with the same $55 per month plan, but you you get a 1GHz processor, a 4.1-inch (800 x 480) screen, 5MP camera, and video recording at 720p. The downside is that it runs Android 2.2.

If you want still want better hardware, check out Simple Mobile. They use T-Mobile’s network and offer SIM cards with unlimited everything, including 4G data for $60 per month or 2D data for $50 per month. You can pop the SIM in anything you want, including an imported Samsung Galaxy S II.

Hit the break and check out a couple of Ascend II overview videos.
