Sprint to Launch Froyo “In the Near Future”

Via their announcement blog, Sprint just announced that it plans to launch Android 2.2 in the near future, and while the post sounds like they mean that it will be available for phones yet to launch, their announcement specifically mentions the Evo 4G as receiving the upgrade.  Sadly, it was confirmed via comments that there are no plans to bring 2.2 to the Hero or the Moment, so we will have to rely on the mod community for that.  But at least we know that their new Android phones, and the Evo, will be up-to-date.

According to a Sprint store manager I talked to, he encouraged me to get as many people as possible to write in to Sprint and express their displeasure that it wasn’t coming to the Hero or Moment. He basically said if the hold-up was at Sprint’s end and not the manufacturer or Google refusing the upgrade, overwhelming complaints could change their mind. He said the same happened with the Hero as initially it wasn’t to get the 2.1 update.
