The blogs are filled today with the complete unveiling of the Droid X, Flash 10.1 for Android, and Android 2.2 aka Froyo. Android 2.2 is a big deal for some because the OS includes some major updates such as WiFi tethering etc. With the source code now fully available some surprising revelations were discovered, apparently the first Droid, released last year, will be getting its dessert before the new Droid X will when it is released on the 15th. At the unveiling ceremony that took place earlier today, Motorola said that the Droid X will launch with Android 2.1 and will be updated over-the-air to 2.2 and Flash 10.1 “later this summer,” around August if a leaked screen is to be believed, while current Droid owners will be receiving it around July!
Personally I will be waiting for the mod community to take over and deliver yet another successful mod that ports 2.2 to other phones. If you don’t trust the other sources, or just want to wait for the fully polished material to pop on to your Droid X, your time will come, just a little later than everyone else.
