Android G1 Multi-Touch Video

In an effort to solve the G1 multi-touch debacle once and for all, developer Ryan Gardner has written a little Android application that aims to prove that the T-Mobile G1 's inability to accept multi-touch isn't a result of the hardware.

The performance of this kind of polling is not that great. There are a few quirks to the multitouch aspect of the G1 - but the most important thing that I see is that even though it might not be a perfect multitouch screen capable of detecting millions of discrete touches - just being able to track 2 fingers should give me the only thing I really want… which is the ability to one day pinch to zoom in on the browser and get rid of those silly magnifying glasses.

  1. I think part of the issue with multitouch on the G1 is that Apple has patents on it. These patents may or may not include “gestures” — so actually pinching may be out of the question on a Non-apple touchscreen.

  2. Apple didn’t invent pinching for zooming. That was done years and years ago. In fact most gestures for multitouch have been around for 2 decades. Apple does however own the patent on the way their hardware detects more than one touch. This was bought from a small company several years ago. I just wonder why HTC can create the screen capable of MT without breaking patents, but Google cannot create the software to run it without infringing on patents.

  3. Fake

  4. WOW, were I can find a sample code ?
