NTT DoCoMo Launching Android Handset In 2009

Japan's top mobile phone operator, NTT DoCoMo Inc has unveiled plans to launch a Google Android powered handset in 2009.

In a joint venture with South Korean partner KTF Co, the two companies are aiming to introduce the Android handset at a price that will be 20% lower than the existing smartphones on the market.

"As we are allied with Google, we are considering a commercial mobile device together," a DoCoMo official told AFP.

The new handset will be the first Google Android powered device to be sold by Japanes and South Korean carriers.
