Motorola Droid X2 official specifications leaked

We have been hearing about the Motorola Droid X2 for sometime now and the official specs has finally leaked:

  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 4.3-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen (that’s 540×960 pixels)
  • EV-DO Rev. A connectivity
  • 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
  • 802.11 Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
  • HDMI out
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
  • Proximity, ambient light, accelerometer and compass sensors
  • 8GB of internal storage

This looks like a really nice phone, but there are a few disappointments like no front-facing camera and Android 2.2. This is a high end phone even though it is not 4G. I see no reason a dual-core phone should be released without a front-facing camera. The fact that it is Android 2.2 and the original X is about to get Gingerbread 2.3.3 is also disappointment. If you own an X now, do you enjoy Gingerbread or upgrade and go back to Froyo?

The Droid X2 has been rumored to be available on Verizon Wireless this Thursday, May 12th. It seems highly unlikely at this point.

The most exciting feature for me is the dual-core processor, which hopefully would get rid of the laginess that happens sometimes on the Droid X, as well as make movie playback smoother (ie, no more Audio/Video sync issues!)

As far as an upgrade from the DX to the DX2, this is very disappointing. The dual core is nice, but I would have expected a front facing camera, Gingerbread and 4G LTE. I don’t see much of a reason to upgrade phones at this point.

As far as Gingerbread on the DX, I have been meaning to install the leaked version, just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Coming from a DX owner since day one, I really feel like there’s no reason to upgrade to this. There just isn’t enough of a change. Plus I love the camera button! I was hoping for a front facing camera, and a more bad-ass look. Maybe even a slide-out keyboard. Boo!
