NVIDIA Shield TV gets its Android 8.0 Oreo update with a shiny new interface

Better late than never! The Android 8.0 Oreo update for the NVIDIA Shield TV is finally starting to roll out, bringing Android TV’s tweaked new UI to the definitive Android TV box. NVIDIA has dropped a few other updates on the device in the past few months, but this will finally catch things up until Android P decides to shake things up again.

The home screen experience is much different post-update, which was one of our gripes with the Shield TV in our review. The new default panels will show some of the movies and TV shows that you’re in the process of watching, plus a favorite apps row where you can put select apps that you frequently access, which should speed up browsing. Tons of apps support the Play Next feature to track where you left off, including big hitters like YouTube, Netflix, and Plex.

Be sure to check for the update on your Shield TV, but don’t panic if you don’t see it just yet. Sometimes they take a few days to hit everyone’s box.
