Xiaomi announces expansion into French, Italian markets

In the Chinese and Indian markets, Xiaomi has been a powerhouse smartphone manufacturer for a few years despite being a young company. Unlike so many other companies in the smartphone business, Xiaomi has been very careful and deliberate with regard to their global expansion plans. Their next step was announced today as Xiaomi indicates they will be coming to France and Italy later this month.

Last fall Xiaomi took their first step outside of their traditional markets of China and India with a launch in Spain. Based on their release today, Xiaomi appears to consider their entry into the Spanish market as a successful one. To build on that moment and continue their efforts, Xiaomi will be expanding into France on May 22, 2018 and then two days later on May 24, 2018 they will add Italy as an active market in their portfolio.

When Xiaomi launched in Spain, the event included a couple dedicated retail stores that potential customers could visit and we would expect something similar in France and Italy. New store openings will likely join partnerships with local carriers to make new Xiaomi smartphone available to buyers.

The move comes on the heels of an announcement last week that Xiaomi is partnering with CK Hutchison to make Xiaomi phones available in the U.K.
