Samsung Epic Gets CyanogenMod 7 Alpha Build

If you’re a CyanogenMod fan who happens to rock the Samsung Epic, you’ve been waiting patiently (okay, or not) to see CM7 drop for your phone. Well, your wait is APPROACHING an end. It’s not a fully complete ROM yet, but there is a semi-functional alpha version brought to you by several guys over at xda-developers. There’s still plenty of work to be done, but kudos to the dev team for getting the ball rolling.  Hit the source link for more details, and if you’re a tinkerer, go grab the download.  Let us know in the comments what you think!

With that said, a short list of things that DO work.

  • Radio works fully – Calling, SMS, Data
  • Bluetooth works for music only.
  • Wifi works fully.
  • Sensors work, but may be slow. Run /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha in terminal or via adb, place the phone on a flat surface, and hit Enter. Reboot the phone and sensors will function at normal speed.

What does NOT work ::

  • GPS
  • Camera
  • HW Acceleration in UI and in video, etc.
