Google I/O 2018 app update hints at a redesign for Android Auto

You might remember last week when Google updated the I/O developer conference application for Android to get it ready for the 2018 event, but this week the iOS version is seeing its update. Normally, that’s not a very big deal to us, considering we’re an Android site. However, that update is hiding some extra info about what Google might be rolling out during I/O 2018.

The iOS app has a slightly more detailed map of the Shoreline Amphitheater, and the notes for the Android Auto sandbox say you can check out a “brand new media experience for Android Auto, both on your phone screen and on your car display.” That sounds like Android Auto will be getting some major new features and interface changes this year.

The update will supposedly be very developer focused to allow more apps to quickly jump over to the automotive platform, and Google has a handful of their own apps ready to go for the update.

We’ll still have to wait for more details, but hey, Google I/O isn’t too far away.

I’d be thrilled if they would just fer the existing Android Auto to work after the upgrade to 8.1. Many of us are having issues that Google is just ignoring.
