Facebook’s Messenger Lite picks up video chat features

Facebook uses Messenger Lite as a stripped down version of their Messenger application for developing markets and lower end phones, but the lightweight service does lack a few features that its bigger brother has. Every once in awhile, though, they trickle a new feature into the Lite version.

This time that new feature is video calling. For most of us that are used to high-powered chat applications video calling is a bare minimum feature for any product, but it can be harder to do on something that’s specifically designed to be more stripped down.

But going forward, Messenger Lite will fully support video calls and chats with all of your Facebook friends, and it’s doing it all in an app that’s under 10mb in size. If you’re currently using it, all you’ll have to do is make sure you’re on the latest version, select a conversation, and tap the video chat button.

Happy chatting!
