Samsung taps composer Pétur Jónsson for 2018’s version of “Over the Horizon”

Love it or hate it, we can all probably recognize Samsung’s “Over the Horizon” from a distance. Samsung has been using it on their Galaxy devices as the default ringtone since 2011, and I’m sure everyone knows at least one person who keeps their volume on 1o without ever changing the ringtone or wallpaper on their Galaxy phone.

Personal feelings aside, the jingle is pretty catchy, and it’s almost synonymous with Samsung’s Galaxy brand. Every year, Samsung tweaks the song just a bit to better match the current crop of flagship phones, and this year is no different with the upcoming Galaxy S9.

Samsung has tapped famous Icelandic composer Pétur Jónsson to put his spin on the song for this year, giving it a chilling and minimalist sound. It’s actually a pretty good reimagining of the melody, Samsung buzzwords aside.

You can check it out in the video below, in case you want to hear it before that guy in the office ruins it for you every day for the next three years.
