Android Froyo

Since Froyo was announced, there hasn’t been a definite answer by manufacturers or carriers as to who will be receiving Froyo. From different sources, here’s what we know…
Definite list:
  • Nexus One
  • Motorola Droid/Milestone
  • HTC Droid Incredible
  • HTC EVO 4G
  • MyTouch 3G and MyTouch 3G Slide
  • HTC Desire
Possibly Not list:
  • Motorola Devour
  • HTC Droid Eris
  • HTC Hero
  • Motorola Backflip
Not Expected to list:
As more information becomes available, we’ll post it here.

Android updates might be a good thing to track over time. Personally, I’d like to know if certain companies have a history of not getting Android updates out the door quickly. Samsung for example seems to be planning an Android 1.6 deployment for the end of June. Maybe it is the carrier and not Samsung, but either way, that is an un-acceptable delivery time and it will influence me when I have to decide if I’m going to get that Galaxy S. It would be great to have a list of android phones along with the dates that any Android OS updates were made widely available for them. The company with decent hardware that gets the new versions of Android into my pocket the quickest would get my money.

Well, the G1 might not be on the official OTA update list, but CyanogenMod will almost certainly give you the features of it after the ASOP is released. They are already running 2.1 (Eclair) stable excellently on the Dream, even though the hardware wasn’t designed for it.

The Samsung i9000 Galaxy S it’s also confirmed to get 2.2, you might want to add that to the list.

no, galaxy s won’t get an update, i base this on my experience from owning the original galaxy which will never see an update above 1.5. after a couple of months they will release a super-duper galaxy x and say that it won’t be upgraded to android 4 honey (or some other sweet starting with the letter h)

Maybe it will not get an update to 3.0 or whatever, but the update for 2.2 it’s confirmed.

If you google “Samsung s froyo” you will get a bunch more articles confirming it.

Can we assume that if the MyTouch family will be updated, that the 2009 Google ION (given away at Google I/O 2009) will also (somehow) get an update?

@Jay The best you can assume is that the guys over at XDA will have a good base to work on new ROMs, that way you can update your ION un-officially, which for me is enough.
