A few years ago tablets were all the rage but fell out of favor as their usefulness came into question as smartphone screens got larger. More recently we see a move to 2-in-1 devices that combine the tablet form factor with a thin laptop design. So it is a bit unusual to see a new tablet device hit the market, but that is what Lenovo is partnering with AT&T to do this holiday season. Starting this Friday, November 17th, the new Lenovo Moto Tab will be available for purchase from the carrier.
The new Moto Tab is a mix of upper- and mid-tier hardware, but AT&T is marketing it as a premium device. The tablet comes equipped with a Snapdragon 625 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage with a microSD slot available. Motorola also equipped the Moto Tab with dual speakers, a fingerprint sensor, USB-C and a 7000 mAh battery. The tablet does benefit from a large 10.1-inch display running at a full HD resolution.
AT&T has been heavily marketing itself as bridging the gap between wireless carrier and a digital content provider since acquiring DirecTV. The new Moto Tab is slotted into that overall strategy as another “screen” for content consumption. AT&T notes it has a “TV mode” and a Kids Mode to help parent manage what family members can access.
In addition to the tablet itself, buyers can also pick up two different “packs” of additional hardware. One is the Lenovo Home Assistant Pack that comes with a stand, dual mics and a 3 watt speaker to turn the tablet into more of a entertainment console to sit on a kitchen counter, desk, or other locations. The other option is the Lenovo Productivity Pack that includes a bluetooth ThinkPad keyboard that includes a touchpad mouse and a case folio to make the tablet more productivity oriented.
The Moto Tab will sell for $300 or AT&T customers can setup an installment plan to pay $15 per month for 20 months.
