Nearly a month ago, Developer Peter Alfonso brought a vanilla Gingerbread ROM to the Motorola Droid. Well recently Google pushed the stock code for Android version 2.3.3 to the open-source community, and Peter has done it again.
This time building his kernel from the ground up, going with the 600MHz CPU and states that it runs far smoother than the last ROM he developed. He’s got the market updated to 2.3.4 and added QuickOffice. It is worth noting that none of the native Google apps are built in, so you’ll have to download Gmail and Google Maps from the market.
Being the device that pretty much put Android on the market, it’s not surprising that the Droid still has a huge following in the dev community, and I expect that we’ll continue to see them bring newer versions of Android to it for a good long while. Be sure and thank Peter for his hard work if you download his ROM!
