Xiaomi won’t be the only high profile manufacturer putting out an Android One device, if new rumors are accurate. HTC is also reportedly building a version of their upcoming U11 Life smartphone that will run stock Android, albeit with a few extra software features tacked on.
The phone will come out in October and use a 5.2-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 630 CPU, and pack 32GB of internal storage. It will run Android 8.0 with just a few of HTC’s signature software features, like EdgeSense, Zoe, and the HTC Camera. You’ll still be able to get it in a regular variant with all of HTC’s software set, but the fact that they’re really embracing stock Android is huge.
I’m getting flashbacks to the Google Play Edition phones that bombed so hard a few years ago. This seems like a much, much better approach from Google.
