The OnePlus 5 survives bends, scratches, and burns

The OnePlus 5 launched yesterday with most of the requisite flagship components that we would expect to see in a high-end smartphone including a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6/8GB RAM and a dual-camera setup. If you are thinking of buying a OnePlus 5 (via the early drop code), you may be curious how the handset stands up to being scratched, burned and bent. Thankfully, JerryRigEverything is on the case and has already subjected the phone to his particular brand of torture. Check how the OnePlus fares in the embedded video below.

With previous OnePlus handsets proving their durability, the OnePlus 5 appears to be resilient as well, with its Gorilla Glass 5 protection only showing faint scratches at level 6, much like the Galaxy S8. The Home button is made out of ceramic which proved resistant to damage from scratches while the rear metal panel was impervious to coins and keys, with resulting marks easily wiped away with a finger. Being made of metal, the rear panel was vulnerable to a box cutter, but let’s face it, how often do we have a box cutter in our pockets with our phones? The bend test did pop the display out of the frame, but it was easily returned to its original position and the phone was no worse for wear. Overall, the OnePlus 5 passed with flying colors, as you can see in the video below.
