Earlier today owners of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on the T-Mobile network started to receive notifications that an update was available for their device. A few hours later the same basic update start showing up for owners on Sprint. Thus far no major changes have been noted after the update is applied, though users will find they are now on the May 1, 2017 security patch for Android.
The description for the update that appears on T-Mobile devices indicates it includes updates to the Bixby application and improved stability for SD cards. The Sprint update is a little more specific in mentioning the Bixby update includes a “user interface adjustment,” the same SD card stability improvements, and improvements to overall device security. No additional specifics have been provided for either carrier’s update. On my own device, I noted that the first time using Bixby after the update forced me to accept the terms and conditions as if it was the first time I was using the application. Otherwise, the cards and operation of the app appears to be the same as before.
The update weighs in at 375 MB on T-Mobile and 379 MB on Sprint and does require a device restart. Has anyone out there received the update and discovered anything noteworthy?
