LG’s next flagship might make the switch to OLED displays

2017 might be the last year where LCD screens are still prominent on flagship smartphones. Samsung has already ditched them in favor of their fantastic OLED screens, but there are a few holdouts (LG, Apple, HTC) that still use LCD panels. Not that LCDs are bad or anything, but compared to an OLED, they leave you wanting more.

There have been plenty of rumors swirling about Apple switching over to OLED this year, but now it looks like LG might pull the trigger, too. The G6 and the V20 used an LCD panel, but whatever the next flagship LG has in the pipeline is rumored to use an OLED panel. That’s very likely to be the V30, but it would also carry over to next year’s LG G7.

The report claims the phone will ship in September, which fits right in with a V30 release. LG would be using partner LG Display for all of the displays, too.

As always, take rumors with a grain of salt. With that being said, the shift to OLED displays has been a long time coming, and I don’t think anyone expected LG to scrap the V30 this year, so all of this information is pretty likely going to be accurate.
