HTC U might be the next flagship to ship without a headphone jack

The HTC U is still regularly making the rounds through the rumor mill, like most flagship phones are prone to doing right before they’re announced. This particular rumor suggests that HTC is following the trend of high-end phones with fewer ports and more water resistance, for better or worse.

Yep, the U is now likely to ship without a headphone jack, opting instead for just a USB type-C port. That’s not a first for HTC, as the HTC U Ultra also doesn’t have a 3.5mm port for your headphones, but it pretty much cements the direction HTC is going with their devices.

On the bright side, losing the headphone jack means the phone will be IP57 certified, so it’s a little more durable than some of HTC’s previous phones. That’s not rated quite as high as the Galaxy S8, but you won’t have to freak out about any water this time around. The leak also suggests that we’ll see the device in single SIM and dual SIM variants.

Other rumors we’ve heard about the HTC U or the HTC Ocean say it will use a Snapdragon 835, sport 4GB of RAM, and a very high resolution 5.5-inch display. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the phone is the pressure sensitive chassis, however.

Still no word on when we can expect to see the HTC U in the flesh, but with the rate these leaks are coming, it’ll probably be sooner rather than later.
