Samsung’s Bixby assistant will work on many of the company’s phones with Nougat

It looks like Bixby, the voice assistant announced with the Galaxy S8, will actually work with most Samsung phones running Android 7.0 Nougat. Not all Samsung phones with Nougat, but a good portion of them.

In other words, Bixby isn’t strictly an exclusive to the Galaxy S8. We’re not sure if Samsung already has plans to bring Bixby to other phones, but if not, it’s as simple as snagging the APK and downloading it on any Samsung phone with Android 7.0 Nougat.

This finding is thanks to the good people over at XDA Developers; however, there are a few things to note. One of the things that doesn’t work with the APK on other phones (at least not yet) is the “Hey, Bixby” voice command.

There does seem to be some users reporting issues, but for the most part, the feedback is that it works fine on the Galaxy S7, except for some portions being Galaxy S8-exclusive, such as the dedicated hardware button and voice command.

And just to reiterate, it does work on a good portion of Samsung phones with Nougat, but not all of them. And even on the phones that it does work with, you can’t expect it to work flawlessly since this is far from officially supporting it.
