Tag Heuer announces the highly customizable Connected Modular smartwatch

Tag Heuer was one of the first manufacturers to really try and push the idea of a smartwatch that was still a high-end fashion accessory, and for the most part, they succeeded. They’re following up that success with a new watch that’s still very premium, but also offers customization options that we’ve never seen from an Android Wear device before.

The Connected Modular smartwatch is exactly what its name describes; completely modular. Pretty much everything on the watch can be swapped out to suit your tastes or moods, which is something we’ve never seen done with a wearable. You can change the bands, buckles, and face of the watch, and then some.

Customization is cool, but the specs aren’t drastically improved over Tag Heuer’s older models. It uses an Intel CPU paired with 512mb of RAM plus a 410mAh battery, and the device is waterproof up to 50 meters. There’s also only WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS radios, although it does have NFC for Android Pay. It’s also “Swiss Made” certified as a testament to its quality.

For its price, it better be high quality. The base model of the Connected Modular is gonna cost you around $1600, with options to get way more expensive if you want fancier bands or components.

The good news is that the watch is available today, so if you’ve got the cash ready to go on a brand new watch, Tag Heuer might have something to sell you.
