LG crammed all of the Watch Sport’s antennas in its watch bands

Some smartwatches are really cool because you can swap the bands out to better match your mood, personality, or outfit. The LG Watch Sport is not one of those watches.

Cramming cellular radios into something as small as a watch face is tricky, which is why you don’t see very many manufacturers try to do it. Instead, they move the antennas¬†into the watch band, which gives them much more room and flexibility at the cost of making it impossible to change out for custom bands.

And it’s not only LTE radios that LG was working with here; we also have Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC to worry about, which just adds on to the need for more space. That’s bad news for anyone wanting a different colored band, and bad news for anyone that accidentally breaks a band, but at least we got some crazy functionality out of it.

The LG Watch Sport will go on sale on February 10th for $349 through Verizon and AT&T, as well as directly through Google’s online store.

How did the sport end up being so big then if everything the style doesn’t have is mostly in the bands?
