Next week, Google and LG are expected to announce two new smartwatches. The Watch Sport and Watch Style, both shipping with Android Wear 2.0, should be positioned as the revival hardware for Google’s wearables platform. And the success of them could come down to price.
Today, a new report reveals how much the Watch Sport will cost.
A trusted source tells Android Police that the beefier Watch Sport will be priced at $349 in the United States. The same outlet reported last week that the Watch Style, a smaller and less powerful smartwatch, will go for $249. Where does the difference in price come into play? Well, the Watch Sport will have things like cellular connectivity, NFC, a heart rate monitor, and a GPS. If you buy the Watch Style, you’re getting a straightforward smartwatch without many extras.
Until now, it appeared Google was going to utilize LG’s Watch Sport and Watch Style as its first in-house smartwatches. Recent reports are missing Google as the consumer-facing brand; therefore, it’s possible Google has decided to push them with LG’s name front and center. But we won’t know anything for sure. The wait is ending soon, and it looks like both companies will unveil them on February 9 alongside Android Wear 2.0’s release.
