It looks like Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier will work with non-Samsung devices. In other words, those wanting to use Samsung Pay with their Gear S3 while connected to, say, the LG V20 will be able to.

The news was originally revealed on Reddit where user LeakyFish contacted Samsung Pay’s Twitter account and received the confirmation.

Previously, the Gear S2 didn’t have Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology, so Samsung Pay wasn’t even possible with that smartwatch, let alone being connected to any smartphone.

The caveat is that Samsung Pay and the Gear S3 will work with any other Android device running Android 4.4 KitKat or newer.

In other words, you’ll essentially be able to take mobile payments anywhere with the Gear S3 now. So, if you want to pair up a Gear S3 with, say, Google’s new Pixel device, you’ll be able to use Samsung Pay just as you would on the Galaxy S7.
