Huawei is taking a page out of Samsung’s playbook and will be launching a curved variant of the Mate 9 this year. There will be two models, one with a standard screen and one with a curved screen, but they’ll otherwise have nearly identical specs. The curved phone will be called the Mate 9 Pro to complement the standard Mate 9.
You can expect some high-end hardware here, with Huawei’s recently announced Kirin 960 CPU powering the device. They’ll both have a 4GB of RAM with a 5.9-inch display, but the Mate 9 will only have a 1080p resolution. The Mate 9 Pro will see a bump up to QHD resolution to tackle virtual reality situations. There’s also a rumor that only the Mate 9 Pro will launch with Android 7.0 Nougat which is really weird, but we’ll have to wait for an announcement for a confirmation.
Huawei will also likely be using the same dual-camera setup on that’s present on the P9.
If you’re interested, both phones should be announced on November 3rd, which isn’t too far off.
