Sprint launches new Unlimited Freedom plan with unlimited data, talk and text

Sprint starting today is offering a new Unlimited Freedom data plan to its customers, allowing two lines of unlimited data, talk and text, all for just $100 per month.

Two lines not enough? Sprint is offering that same Unlimited Freedom data plan in a family package deal, allowing four lines unlimited data, talk and text for just $160 a month. Customers will actually be able to add up to ten lines. The first line costs $60, the second $40, and any added line after that will be $30 per month.

There’s no hidden fees either. Sprint wants this plan to be simple and straight forward, and thus, isn’t tucking any access charges or hidden fees in the fine print, according to the press release.

This plan is good news for those that are looking at switching carriers after T-Mobile announced its new Uncarrier 12 initiative with its all-in-one T-Mobile One plan.

Sprint is also offering a similar prepaid plan through its subsidiary Boost Mobile. You’ll get the same great unlimited data, talk and text, but for just a little bit less. A single line will cost you $50 per month while a second line (for up to a total of five lines) will cost you just $30 a month.

Not only are these some great savings, but having access to unlimited high-speed 4G LTE data is an excellent perk. Interestingly, Sprint doesn’t mention anything about throttling to 2G speeds after a certain threshold on its Unlimited Freedom plan; however, there will be throttling on the Boost Mobile Unlimited plan after using 8GB of high-speed data.

Both plans from Sprint and Boost Mobile are available starting today, August 19.

Beginning, Friday, Aug. 19, Sprint will offer Unlimited Freedom:

  • Unlimited talk, text and optimized streaming video, gaming and music
  • Unlimited nationwide 4G LTE data for most everything else
  • Just $60 a month for one line
  • $40 a month for a second line
  • $30 a month each for lines 3-10

Sprint’s incredible new Unlimited Freedom beats T-Mobile and AT&T’s unlimited offer – only available to its DirecTV subscribers – while Verizon doesn’t even offer its customers an unlimited plan.

Two lines from Sprint cost $100 compared to two lines from T-Mobile for $120. And a family can get four lines from Sprint for $160.

Also, beginning Friday, Aug. 19, Sprint’s leading prepaid brand, Boost Mobile cuts through the no-contract clutter with a new simplified unlimited offer, Unlimited Unhook’d:

  • Unlimited talk, text and optimized streaming videos, gaming and music
  • Unlimited nationwide 4G LTE data for most everything else
  • $50 a month for one line
  • $30 a month for a second line up to five total lines

“Wireless customers want simple, worry-free and affordable wireless plans on a reliable network,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint president and CEO. “There can be a lot of frustration and confusion around wireless offers, with too much focus on gigabytes and extra charges. Our answer is the simplicity of Unlimited Freedom. Now customers can watch their favorite movies and videos and stream an unlimited playlist at an amazing price.”

Wireless data usage is growing steadily from 2015 to 2016 as consumers shift data-heavy activities from desktop to mobile. According to Parks Associates’ latest survey data, average monthly wireless data consumption grew 28% from 3Q15 to 2Q16. Among mobile consumers under the age of 25, there was a 38% increase in data use per month from 2015. With unlimited plans that are affordable and on a great network, customers can use as much data as they want with no worries.

Mobile Optimized Video

With Unlimited Freedom all video streaming is equal. Sprint doesn’t limit customers to “free” streaming for only chosen content providers. With Unlimited Freedom, customers can stream all their favorite TV shows and movies and it’s all included with no overages.

Unlimited Freedom utilizes optimization for streaming video, gaming and music, delivering a high-quality viewing experience for mobile devices with video streams of up to 480p resolution, gaming up to 2mbps and music streams at extreme quality of up to 500kbps.

“While we initially questioned using mobile optimization for video, gaming and music, the decision was simpler when consumers said it ‘practically indistinguishable’ in our tests with actual consumers,” said Claure. “In fact, most individuals we showed could not see any difference between optimized and premium-resolution streaming videos when viewing on mobile phone screens. Both provide the mobile customer clear, vibrant videos and high-quality audio. Mobile optimization allows us to provide a great customer experience in a highly affordable unlimited package while increasing network efficiency.”

Network Reliability

Customers who sign up for Unlimited Freedom will experience Sprint’s highly reliable network that is better than ever. In fact, Sprint’s analysis of drive test data from Nielsen – covering the top 106 metropolitan markets in the U.S. – shows that Sprint’s reliability now beats T-Mobile’s and performs within 1% of AT&T and Verizon1. Sprint will even cover switching fees up to $650 per line via an American Express® Reward Card (less phone trade-in credit provided) after online registration and new phone activation2.

Unlimited Plans from Boost Mobile Available on Aug. 19

In addition to the Unlimited Unhook’d plan, Boost Mobile will also unveil the $30 Unlimited Starter plan, which includes unlimited talk, text and data with 1GB of 4G LTE data. Customers looking for more high-speed data can add 1 GB of 4G LTE data for $5 per month or 2 GB of 4G LTE data for $10 per month. Multi-line plans are also available for families looking to save some money for an additional $30 a month per line.

“There’s a lot of confusion and clutter in prepaid, but is doesn’t have to be that way. Boost Mobile is offering the simplest solution with plans that are easy to understand,” said Claure. “Boost has something for everyone, whether you need a truly unlimited plan with 4G LTE data or want to save extra money with a low-cost plan.”
