Dive right in with new Misfit Shine 2 Swimmer’s Edition

It has taken a while for the partnership to finally make a splash, but the combination of Misfit and Speedo is yielding results with the new Misfit Shine 2 Swimmer’s Edition powered by Speedo. The combined expertise of the two companies to produce a swimmer-oriented activity tracker was first announced last fall and the new device is finally being released, just in time for all your summertime swimming activities.

Misfit and Speedo partnered to be able to produce an activity tracker that is especially well-suited for swimmers. Special proprietary algorithms were developed so that the device can accurately count laps across a variety of stroke types. The Misfit Shine 2 Swimmer’s Edition can also track total swim distance and users can set a workout timer that will buzz when a countdown is complete. All of a user’s swim data can then be analyzed in either the Misfit app or in a special Speedo swim-tracking app called Speedo Fit.

Along with the swim tracking capabilities, the device also functions as your basic activity tracker capable of counting steps, distance, calories, and sleep. The device will pair with your smartphone to vibrate to let you know of events like incoming calls or texts and will provide movement reminders.

Misfit built in better capacitive touch responsiveness, faster wireless syncing and extended Bluetooth range. The device delivers a unique view into activity progress via 12 LED lights that can be checked using just a double tap to activate.

Misfit, which was purchased by Fossil last year, is unique in the activity tracker segment as their devices do not need charging. Instead, they get a battery that lasts about six months and Misfit will supply a replacement.

Misfit also announced that owners of the Misfit Shine 2 or Misfit Ray will be able to take advantage of the new lap counting technology via an in-app $9.99 upgrade that will install to those devices.

The Misfit Shine 2 Swimmer’s Edition went on sale today at a retail price of $119.99 on the Misfit.com web site, the Speedousa.com web site and in all Apple stores.
