AT&T support page showing Samsung Captivate running Froyo, is update on the way?

Although Samsung has become quite notorious with owners of Samsung Android devices for not sending out updates to their Android devices nearly as often as they should, a small ounce of hope was discovered. What you’re seeing in the picture above is a screenshot of the Samsung Captivate running Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo. This was found on the AT&T support page for the Samsung Captivate, in the section that describes how to find the Captivate’s firmware version and operating system.

With many other Android phones already running Froyo and Gingerbread already going public, it seems as though the Captivate would never get the Froyo update. But, this lucky find does shed a small ray of hope on the situation for Captivate users wanting Android 2.2. Hopefully this means that the Froyo update is on the way.

You can check out the support page by clicking the source link below. Be sure to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments.

After 9 captivates since September, I’m looking forwards to a non-Samsung device Sunday. AT&T will be call me to order a new phone the instant it’s available.

its about time they update that damn phone i been waiting since august. In the mean time i been using a nexus one and its pretty awesome but no where as fast as my captivate. I’m not sure who’s to blame here Samsung or ATT. Either way they’ve left me a with a bad taste in my mouth and will probably switch over to Verizon or tmobile and get me a new HTC phone

A ray of hope…Yes…but to say that Captivate owners have doubts about Samsung’s and AT&T’s responsiveness to their customers would be an understatement. This update should have happened before Christmas (2010)! I love Android, but my loyalty to Samsung (having been a Blackjack II and Epix user and now a Captivate user) and my loyalty to AT&T (having been with AT&T for more than a half dozen years) are both not what they used to be. The ONLY thing that keeps me with AT&T at this point is that I need real multitasking – being able to access data while on a call – and Verizon doesn’t offer that.

Yeah well, as it’s been said in many a place, I shall believe it when I see it…in the meantime I’m lovin’ my Cappy as is.

Thanks for your replies guys! If indeed the Captivate gets the Froyo update, we’ll be sure to post it here at TalkAndroid.

Good news indeed if true.I have been running the leaked 2.2 Froyo for the last 4 months and I’m not sure if I will update since I have my Cappy set up perfectly the way I like.Everything works perfectly, including the GPS.Those who are still waiting for 2.2 Froyo will be in for a treat B-).

Well if I remember correctly at&t did the same right before 2.1 (pre) clair was released for the backflip then a day or so later changed the page back to show 10a.5. Either way motorola contacted me a day or so later to begin soak testing. And thru pure ass hole rage had at&t give me the captivate……just so I could play the wait game. Again. But atleast the cappy is fun to have around when you’re forced to hurry up and wait. And is surely better than the iphone p.o.s alternative. Android fragmentation is horrible but its still better than the steve jobs OS.sucks

As of this morning, 2/9, AT&T has changed the support site images to show 2.1 Update 1. Apparently they were being a little hasty. Big surprise.

Right now don’t care, I gave up and flashed mine at the beginning of the month. Even if it does come out I’ll wait until XDA cleans it up

I know it can be changed ‘n all, but the date on the clock in those screenshots says June 10, 2010…..so how far back in AT&Ts dev cycle for Froyo were they taken???
