Huawei executive talks about a possible Nexus for 2016

On thursday, a Huawei executive spoke about the possibility of a new Nexus smartphone coming later this year.

Many are still buying the Nexus 6P, Huawei’s current Nexus-branded handset. This is because user feedback has been off the charts and deals are becoming more frequent. The Nexus 6P was undoubtedly a success, and with Huawei’s goal of overcoming rivals like Apple and Samsung, a Nexus 6P refresh could very well contribute to the company’s U.S. influence and overall growth.

Charlene Munilall, the general manager for Huawei’s Consumer Business Group in South Africa, told Gearburn “we’re doing the Nexus again this year.” This isn’t really a surprise to use considering how good the Nexus 6P was and previous reports indicating a possible Huawei Nexus 6P successor for 2016. There’s also been reports and leaks regarding the existence of two upcoming HTC Nexus-branded smartphone models. One with a 5-inch display and the other with a 5.5-inch presumably having beefier specs. The codenames leaked back in January.

Google plans to continue what it started last year when it launched not one but two new Nexus smartphone models. One mid-range model and one high-end model for tech savvys. Now that three models appear to be possible, everything is up in the air. Maybe one will be a new Nexus tablet? Perhaps a successor to the Nexus 9 that launched a whole two years ago. Maybe we’ll get a smartphone dedicated to Daydream, Google’s new VR platform. As the Summer moves on, we should get some clarification on what to expect for this year’s Nexus models. Stay tuned!

So maybe HTC will make a 5 inch and 5.5 inch, while Huawei makes another 5.7 inch. That’ll be dope!
