T-Mobile greets international travelers to U.S. with special Tourist Plan

T-Mobile is launching a new option starting on June 12th that targets travelers visiting the United States. The new T-Mobile Tourist Plan is a pre-paid plan that comes with data, text, and voice services good for three weeks that will set tourists back only $30.

According to T-Mobile, travelers only need to bring an unlocked phone, obviously one that would work with T-Mobile’s GSM network, to a T-Mobile store and ask for the Tourist Plan. T-Mobile will provide a free SIM card that users can pop into their phone to activate the service.

Like all of T-Mobile’s plans, users get unlimited data, but only a limited amount at 4G LTE speeds. In the case of the Tourist Plan, that will be 2GB available for the three weeks the plan is good for. Users who sign up for the Tourist Plan will get 1,000 minutes of domestic calling in the U.S. and they will get unlimited texting both within the U.S. as well as to over 140 international locations.

T-Mobile does note that the Tourist Plan does not qualify for Un-carrier features like Binge On or Mobile without Borders. Users can use their device as a mobile hotspot if it supports that feature. The plan will automatically cancel itself after three weeks, so users do not need to do anything to avoid extra charges. T-Mobile does not offer any extensions and if more than one phone is needed during a visit, separate plans will have to be purchased for each.
