OnePlus announced today that the heavily-rumored OnePlus 3 will launch soon in VR. As a result, the company is sending out 30,000 units of its own VR headset, the Loop VR, for free.
OnePlus had a similar event for the OnePlus 2. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing pre-recorded VR presentation, but OnePlus promises they’re “upping the ante” this time around. And they sort of already are.
Last year, OnePlus handed out 30,000 Google Cardboard viewers for free for people to watch the event. However, they’ve come up with their own VR headset now, citing that it’s more robust, immersive, and will provide a comfortable experience. Developed in conjunction with AntVR, OnePlus is convinced this year’s virtual reality launch experience is going to go off without a hitch.
OnePlus says this virtual reality launch with take viewers into the future where OnePlus’ headquarters sits in space. Called “Loop,” the space station is where viewers will see the launch of the OnePlus 3 happen.
Here’s hoping this year’s VR event will be a whole lot better than the last. Even if it doesn’t go off great, one thing’s for sure: the OnePlus 3 will be an impressive smartphone if rumors have anything to say. Initial reports say that OnePlus is ditching the invite system this time around, and they’re also equipping the handset with an AMOLED display, a hefty 3,000mAh battery, and some other impressive hardware.
