Twitter adds Periscope integration to its official app with addition of ‘Go Live’ button

With Facebook Live and SnapChat offering live video services, Twitter has decided that it needs to further integrate with its own live video service, Periscope, by incorporating a ‘Go Live’ button into the official Twitter app.

According to The Verge, the ‘Go Live’ button appears when the user is composing a tweet, with the button appearing next to the other media options. The new function is being rolled out slowly from today to a small number of Twitter users initially. When pressing the ‘Go Live’ button in the Twitter app, users will be taken straight to the Periscope app if it is already installed. If it isn’t, the user will be steered to the Play Store to download the app.

The move comes a few days after Periscope began offering an option to permanently save broadcast videos, instead of them being deleting automatically after 24 hours.

For the moment, unless you are one of the small percentage of Twitter users chosen to see the ‘Go Live’ button in the Twitter app, it’s a case of waiting for the function to roll out to a wider audience over the next few days and weeks.

Are you a Periscope user? And if not, would the ‘Go Live’ button tempt you to using Periscope instead of Facebook Live or Snapchat? Let us know in the comments below.
