The National Football League is very selective with its partners who carry content, usually sticking with familiar faces whenever a new deal is being shopped. So it’s surprising to see that the league has reached a deal with Amazon for the company to put a new docuseries on its video streaming service later this year. Fans of the NFL and especially the Arizona Cardinals will get an inside look at what teams go through every week in preparation for games as they race to the playoffs.
The docuseries, called All or Nothing, showcases the Arizona Cardinals during the 2015 season in their run to the NFC Championship game. In that game, the Cardinals fell just short of the Super Bowl by losing 49-15 to the Carolina Panthers. Players, coaches, and front office executives will all make appearances on All of Nothing.
Amazon Video will begin streaming the eight-part docuseries this summer.
What this series between the NFL and Amazon indicates is that there is a strong possibility the league’s streaming rights package goes to Jeff Bezos cash cow. Amazon is among the large field of bidders trying to land Thursday Night Football streaming rights. The toughest bidder to beat is likely Verizon as they hold exclusive streaming rights for mobile devices and want to sign a new deal with more content.
Like with All or Nothing, Amazon could leverage other NFL content as being streamed on its hardware ecosystem including the Fire TV and Fire tablets.
