Facebook for Android updated to v1.5.1, ‘Deals’ feature included

Facebook has pushed out an update to v1.5.1, which brings these changes to the app:

Added deals – get access to savings, free offers and special deals from nearby businesses
Added chat – now you can chat with your Facebook friends right from your Android device
Push notifications (only supported for devices on Android 2.2+)
Various bug fixes

These seem like the standard fixes but one thing jumps out at us: Deals? What are those?

From the looks of it, Deals is a new Facebook feature that allows the user to check in to places and possibly receive digital coupons and deals from businesses and restaurants. Sounds very Foursquare-esque to me.

Although I’m not too sure how to access Deals at this point, it sounds like a very promising feature for Facebook for Android.

I’m surprised you’re reacting positively to FB Deals. Seems like another way to push ads to users to me.

The chat feature is the real highlight of this update.

Well like I said in the article, I haven’t actually tried it myself but if its anything like the deals I’ve gotten with Foursquare, I can actually save money by checking in!

This is old news as far as FB Deals. The functionality was there before but you had to access their FB touch website. Glad to see it included in the FB app though. Good deals, got some BuyOneGetOne free from Chipotle and Gap.

Facebook Deals has been around since the beginning of November, but it’s just now accessible via the Facebook Android application. More info about Facebook Deals here:
