Android/Win 7 dual-boot Acer Aspire D260 Netbook

Netbooks are not quite as exciting as they used to be, what with the majority of them being dangerously similar to the next. It’s no surprise then, that this D260 is more or less standard fare.

Oh, except for the dual-booting operating systems.

Acer is shipping the D260 with Google Android and Windows 7 in a dual-booting configuration, with the former capable of a 15 second start-up time. Hardware configurations include an Atom N450 with 1GB of DDR2 RAM or Atom N455 with 2GB of DDR3 RAM, both with Intel GMA 3150 graphics on a 10.1″ display. The N455 version will benefit from a larger six-cell battery (with life of eight hours quoted), and a higher resolution display.

What isn’t clear though, is the version of the Android OS, and whether quoted battery life is using the Android OS or the Windows 7 OS. It will certainly be interesting to see a real-life comparison between the two for actual battery performance.

With no confirmed prices at the time of writing, the D260 is expected to land on shelves near you from July 1st.

But if you are in the UK, don’t expect to see the option to dual-boot, as it’ll apparently only ship with Windows 7. Typical.
