If a new report published by Re/code earlier today is anything to go by, Twitter is set to increase its iconic 140-character tweet limit to what could be a staggering 10,000 characters. The expansion is currently being tested as part of an internal project codenamed “Beyond 140”.
“Twitter is building a new feature that will allow users to tweet things longer than the traditional 140-character limit, and the company is targeting a launch date toward the end of Q1, according to multiple sources familiar with the company’s plans. Twitter is currently considering a 10,000 character limit.” says the online publication.
As it stands, it’s not firmly established that the limit will expand to 10,000. It’s perfectly feasible that the social networking giant may up it by just 60 characters, which bumps the total up to 200. I, for one, don’t think it’s necessary to issue a 10,000 letter tweet as the network was designed to be concise.
