Developer dalingrin has developed his own kernel, and if you’ve rooted your device and loaded the ClockworkMod recovery tool, you can get this kernel on your own device. Simply visit the source thread, download the corresponding file, and flash through the ClockworkMod recovery. Any customization of this nature of course involves a certain amount of risk, but this process seems fairly safe. Still, proceed with caution.
If you’re feeling very confident in your abilities, this is a good time to remind you that the Nook Color, once rooted, is capable of being hacked to run the Android market. This process is substantially more risky, but if you’re wanting to get the absolute most out of your tablet, it’s worth considering.
