Now that we have the X10 Mini, the smallest Android phone to date, it only seems fitting that we go the other way and look at what is probably the largest Android phone to date.
The Dell Streak has generated its fair share of excitement since CES 2010, and CNET UK have let the world know exactly what they think of the new Android-based tablet-cum-smart-phone in their review.
Potentially a short-man’s iPad (okay, not really, but it will be hilarious if someone with a small head uses one of these), the Streak boasts some pretty impressive hardware, only to be let down by some software deficiencies.
Still running on Android 1.6 and a not-quite-perfect interface, means that it’s hard not to feel a little underwhelmed with the Streak as it is. However, Dell, are promising an update to Android 2.2 before the end of the year, which should hopefully result in better use of the hardware available.
The aforementioned hardware includes a five inch capacitive screen with WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, 2GB internal storage, a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5MP camera with LED flash and a front-mounted VGA camera to boot.
With a promising future, the Streak looks like a decent alternative for people who need to bridge the tablet and phone gap, but it will require some seriously deep pockets – mainly to fit the 152 x 78 x 10 mm device itself.
In the UK, the streak is set to be available exclusively on the O2 network imminently, with the US version arriving later in the summer. For once, the UK comes first for a change, eh?
