One fact will always remain true with the folks over at Google, and that is, when you have as much revenue as they do, you can do whatever the heck you want! And as many of our Android loving readers already know, Google has decided to give each of their OS updates the name of a pastry in alphabetical order (Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread etc.) Well, aside from some slight speculation, it has been assumed, by most tech bloggers, that the next update (after Honeycomb) would be called “Ice Cream”. Well, it looks like Andy Ruben, Chief Engineer for Android, has set the story strait in a discussion with a couple of writers from TechCrunch. He mentioned that the name of the upcoming update will not be called Ice Cream, but in fact “Ice Cream Sandwich” Personally, we can’t wait to see the day a bunch of employees struggle to drag a huge ice cream sandwich onto the campus at Google headquarters in Mountain View. And we most certainly can’t wait for the update itself to hit our handsets either.
It looks like Google wanted to clarify things using “Ice Cream Sandwich” as to not be confused with their previous update “froyo” (frozen yogurt) We could see how both a sculpture of a frozen yogurt and a bowl of ice cream might cause some confusion as to what the difference is. Don’t worry Google, you could make an ice cream CONE and it would certainly differentiate itself between it and froyo. Just bring it!
