Sprint Trash Talks T-Mobile’s HSPA+ Network, Oh It’s On…

Stephanie Vinge, a corporate communications manager with Sprint, today sprinkled a little trash talk on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network using her Twitter account.

“A little #4G math: # of T-Mobile 4G phones: 0 (oh wait, they don’t have a 4G network yet) # of VZW 4G phones: 0. # of Sprint 4G phones: 2.”

The words, “open mouth, insert foot” come to mind, in this clear case of misinformation.  This is strangely ironic, since the ITU, those fellas responsible for defining what 4G is, just declared LTE, WiMax and HSPA+ to be labeled as legitimate 4G technologies.  But what do they know? They have only been around for 145 years.  In addition, to further add insult to injury, a few tweets later she states that the ITU is just one “perspective.”  Really?  That’s like saying a particular law ruled by the Supreme Court is not valid because it’s just one perspective.

Furthermore, she states that T-Mobile doesn’t even have a 4G handset , let alone a 4G network.  I guess she missed the press release for the launch of the T-Mobile G2 and the MyTouch 4G.

This will certainly be interesting to follow this upcoming year, as T-Mobile begins to roll out their 42 Mbit/s HSPA+ data speeds, in conjunction with Sprint’s WiMax expansion.  In the meantime, as the war rages on planet 4G, we strongly urge that Stephanie read more tech blogs and follow @ITU_News on Twitter.  And finally, in the words of Rodney King, ‘can’t we just all get along?”

You know what that tells me, that Sprint is afraid of T-Mobile if they have to bash them in the public like this. I personally won’t get a 4G phone until they come out in my area. There isn’t a drop of T-Mobile service here, Sprints 3G speeds are ridiculously slow here, Verizon speeds are ok and great coverage, and AT&T has the fastest speeds but as soon as you get out of town the 3G drops and switches back to EDGE.

I like Sprint and had an Evo, but hooking up to their 4G is a pain. I’ll take T Mobile’s “4G” over Sprints any day. There’s no special switch to turn on, it doesn’t have to wait for an IP address, you’re not draining your battery by leaving a 4G switch turned on when there is no 4G and last but not least. Where I live, Sprint’s best download was 4.3MB and T Mobile’s best is 8.5 with an average of 6 to 7. And Stephanie, those speeds are on my MyTouch 4G. My year old Nexus One even has downloads that beat your 4G where the Sprint coverage map shows your best 4G strength. Please Stephanie, no more Tweeting from the bar.

Although her intentions were to stir things up to generate sales of Sprint products, I believe that misinforming crooners and potential customers hurts them more than it helps their already tainted reputation.

The T-Mobile MyTouch4G is the best phone I have ever owned. I consistently get the high-speed data network in my 3 locations (New York, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs, CA) and the interface, size and HTC are clearly superior to anything I’ve had before including Droid X, iPhone, HTC Incredible, T-Mobile G2, and others…
