Huawei Ascend Mate 3 spotted in benchmarks packing powerful specs

Readers of the site may remember the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, a mid-range phablet at a great price which we reviewed quite favorably earlier this summer. Well it appears that the folks at Huawei have already started preparing the follow-up to their 6.1-inch behemoth, and this times the specifications seem as gargantuan as the screen.

Thanks to the popular AnTuTu benchmark, we now have a pretty clear picture of what is powering Huawei’s upcoming device, including the Kirin 920 octa-core processor (which allegedly outperforms the Snapdragon 805). To supplement the high-powered chip, Huawei have included the capable Mali-T624 MP4 GPU and 2 or 3 GB of RAM. The Mate 3 will run Android 4.4.2, sport a 1080p 6.1-inch display (upgraded from the Mate 2’s 720p panel), and will be packing a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera for the selfie fanatics. Finally the Mate 3 will sport a metal body and will run Android 4.4.2 out of the box. While nothing is set in stone, Huawei is expected to make the Mate 3 official sometime in September. It looks like the Chinese manufacturer is aiming for a more premium handset to carry the Mate moniker into the future.
