Sylvania Launching 7inch Android Tablet

Doesn’t Sylvania specialize in light bulbs? I guess they’ve decided to jump into the Android tablet rage by developing a 7 inch “MID tablet” for those who don’t want to pay for a quality product…by quality I mean the more expensive, but sexy Samsung Galaxy S tablet.

This new Sylvania tablet will come with Android 2.1, 800×480 screen resolution, 512MB RAM, 2GB on-board storage, front-facing camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, HDMI output, microSD slot, 2 mini-USBs.

It sounds not bad right? And for the price tag of $179.99, it may be a bargain. However, you won’t connect it to a mobile carrier, and it’s likely not going to have the Android Market available. If you can live without those, grab it.

So I’m saving hundreds of $ and all I give up is the Market and a mobile carrier. Seems too good to be true.

So… im guessing the images are “added on”… because it shows not only a texting app… but a phone app as well…

Who needs a money grubbing mobile carrier for a tablet? If I want to talk or text I have what is called a PHONE!

What do people think is wrong with wi-fi for surfing the net? Are they such junkies they have to be on the web, on a tablet, in the middle of nowhere?

I don’t understand. If it’s got the Android 2.1 OS, how come “it’s likely not going to have the Android Market available”?

This product had no bad reviews until we all received the product for Christmas. I bought mine for a 17 yr old, who has much experience with electronics. The Sylvania 7″ Android MIB Tablet stopped working after 60 days. It didn’t work well in the first place, you couldn’t use but one app at a time and the apps were very limited. The internet connection was terrible when it connected at all. I will never buy from Sylvania nor Sears ever again. There product returns are only 30 days for Electronics, so how convenient that the product stopped working after less than 60 days. I am out almost $200.00 to find the reviews to be mostly bad now and after the fact.

My daughter’s only worked for one day before the on/off switch fell inside the machine.  Since we bought it on Black Friday and didn’t open it till Christmas, the 30 days was up and Sears wouldn’t fix or replace it.  I have been trying to get Sylvania Customer service on the phone, but that hasn’t worked.  Anyone have any ideas.

I got mine at CVS drugs for a sawbuck ($100) and have been thrilled. Watching a vivid HD movie on it now. It just updated it’s own OS over the air. I was in system tools and asked about system update. Everyone needs to stop comparing the thing to some arcos thing at $300 AND JUST BUY IT. I just downloaded the free Samba File sharing app that lets me log onto my Windows 7 machine and get stuff stored there.. way cool

My son received one from his grandparents for his birthday, and loved it. However, after about eight days, it stopped working. The screen is black and it won’t charge, like it’s completely dead. My son is very disappointed, and the telephone number provided in the booklet for service doesn’t answer — they continually tell you to call within business hours (which is when we are calling).

The One year warranty means nothing. I can not get an answer on their 800 number either, we call daily. The warranty doesn’t mean much when you can’t get anyone on the phone. Again, the internet connection is awful, it’s slow to load anything if again it gets connected to an internet at all.

I would NOT recommend this product to anyone.

And a message to James the phone user, my daughter wanted the product to be able to use wifi at places she frequented. But this product is a POS, it was cheaper in the long run than obtaining a phone w/ a service, but I did get shafted by purchasing this product.

Bought one six months ago and stopped using it three weeks aftter that cause it was useless. I was considering buying a new one but wasnt ready to give up on it just yet. I fired it up after about five months of inactivity sitting on a shelf, downloaded the update for it and….. bam! Works like a completely different tab, freakin love it! Fixxed all the bugs it had previously.
    update,update,update, all i can say!

I bought one on black friday My first thought wwas Crap I should have saved the money But after the upgrade and spending a few hours online lookind for a downlaodable andoid apk I changed my mind about it. The upgrade fixed alotof the screen bugs and I found a way to download android market once I got that I was able to get whatever I wanted on it. The only down side I can see is the need for it to have to keep the sd card in to work. But It is just for my son so he can stop playing games on my phone. All in all I think it was a great buy

How did you get Android Market on it?
