Android Dream Announcement Due Sept 23, Release Late October

The Wall Street Journal is today reporting that the long awaited HTC Dream/G1 will be publicly announced in Seattle on September 23rd with a release date aimed at late October.

T-Mobile, a Deutsche Telekom AG unit, is expected to announce the phone Sept. 23, people familiar with the matter said. The device is due to hit stores as soon as the end of October, these people said. The phone’s pricing couldn’t be determined.

These latest reports from the WSJ tie in well from what has already been rumored by Reuters and other news agencies.

The WSJ article also reports that HTC predict they will need to ship between 600,000 and 700,000 units of the HTC Dream smart phone in order to meet demand.

The HTC Dream/G1 will be the first handset powered by the Android platform, and will be launched on the T-Mobile network.
